Far away on the steppes, in a vast region of open grassland without any other kind of civilization than wild horses and occasionally a lonely rider, is a city called Atyrau. In this remote area, a stone’s throw from the world’s largest enclosed inland body of water - The Caspian Sea – and only 350 km away from the Russian border, this city, with its 168,000 inhabitants, is one of the world´s most active oil cities with a production of 5 million tons of oil per year.
Besides the oil industry, Atyrau holds a PE-pipe factory owned by Chevron and now also the newly built valve plant right next to it.
